A. Pengertian Adjective Clause

Apa itu adjective clause ? Adalah klausa atau gabungan 2 atau lebih kata yang bersifat predikatif (mengadung predikat atau subjek dan predikat) dan menduduki sebagai satu unsur dalam sebuah kalimat, yaitu sebagai kata sifat. Sebagai klausa, tentunya memiliki aturan dan kata kunci sendiri yang menandainya. Biasanya kita sebut dengan konjungsi atau penghubung. Klausa ini menjelaskan suatu objek baik orang maupun benda dan menjadi satu kesatuan dengan objek.

B. Fungsi Adjective Clause

Apa kegunaan adjective clause ? Memiliki fungsi sebagai klausa penanda sifat suatu objek yang diterangkan. Objek itu bisa berupa benda maupun orang. Misalnya, orang yang kamu temui atau buku yang baru kubeli. Perlu diketahui bahwa yang namanya klausa pasti bersifat predikatif (ada unsur subjek dan predikat).

C. Penggunaan Adjective Clause

Adjective clause digunakan sesuai dengan objek yang diterangkan. Apabila menggunakan objek orang maka biasanya menggunakan who, whom, whose, that, dll. Apabila menggunakan objek orang maka biasanya menggunakan which, that, dll. Ada juga yang menggunakan in which, where, of them, of whom, of which.

Untuk rumus dan polanya ane bagi menjadi beberapa bagian untuk objek orang, objek benda dan pola lainnya.

1. Objek orang

2. Objek benda

3. Pola of them, of whom, of which

of them (untuk objek orang dan jika kalimat dipisah oleh titik)
of whom (untuk objek orang dan jika kalimat dipisah oleh koma)
of which (untuk objek benda)

4. Pola where dan in which (jika objeknya berupa tempat)
